Today is Sam's 7th birthday. He let us know this fact by waking us up at 6:00 am for his special day! It was another awesome day. The weather is a bit cooler here than usual, high around 62 and windy. So after bundling up this morning we were off for another adventure. We went for a hike near the Fishing Bridge area. It was a trail called Stormy Point and it went through a wooded area and to a point overlooking Lake Yellowstone. It was absolutely beautiful and the kids did really well. It was a short 2 mile hike but they were really into it. They thought they were on a bear hunt. Speaking of bears, this trail is sometimes closed because of Grizzly activity, so the entire time all I could think about is "why am I out here without bear spray?" But (always rational) Doug had to remind me that bear attacks seldom ever happen (like only 20 in the last 20 years or so at Yellowstone), so I kept on trotting.
After the big hike we did some souvenir shopping at Yellowstone and then went out to dinner for Sam's birthday. As we were out for dinner he announced that he would like to have a cake with candles for his birthday. We weren't planning on doing this since we have already done not one, but TWO cakes at home to celebrate all the July birthdays. But we thought what the heck let's see if we can find a cake. Easier said then done in the tourist town of West Yellowstone, but eventually we found one last cake at a bakery, had them slap Happy Birthday Sam, everyone was happy and we were back to the campsite.
Today was the last day at Yellowstone. It has been a really neat experience and we had a great time. Tomorrow we move on to the Grand Tetons, for more adventures (hopefully with a little less driving and traffic).
Happy birthday to all the Rober boys! Keep the pics and stories coming Lisa...I am having fun reading them :o)
