Mendenhall Glacier!

We loved visiting the Mendenhall Glacier.  The first time we went to the Visitor Center it was closed (due to a robbery) and some of the shorter trails were closed (due to a bear attack).  While the Visitor Center is a bit touristy and crowded, we still enjoyed it and found ways to find some space.  Nugget Falls were really cool, it was amazing how loud and windy it was at the bottom.

Doug and Sam took a very adventurous hike to the Glacier.  Of course you can do this type of hike thru an excursion with a guide but they chose to do it solo! We had attempted this one as a family a couple of days ago but were unprepared in the amount of food and water we brought it.  Also when we went previously, we realized that Sam and Doug have a little bit higher of an adventure tolerance than Mom and Jake.  So this time Doug and Sam attempted it alone and Mom and Jake went shore fishing (well at least Jake did!)

Wow....very difficult walk to a glacier with Sam. We took the hard walk there over a narrow bridge, steep inclines and declines, and even had to pull ourselves up a rock face with a rope. It was just Sam and I. We underestimated how tough it was, but made it. Then took a different route back because there was no way we could climb up what we just came down. At times we were not sure we were going the right way, but we did. Soaked and tired.
