We Climbed a Mountain!!

We visited the Exit Glacier and just like every other glacier we have visited it was beyond beautiful!  We wanted to take a longer hike and decided on the trail to the Harding Ice Field, we knew it was at least 10 miles from the car and very challenging.  Honestly, I can’t believe we finished, it was so much tougher than any of us anticipated.  We each had our breaking points but everyone made it to the end!  It was 3,512 feet of elevation, took us 3 hours and 15 minutes to climb up and about 2 hours to make it down.  We had heat, bugs, tree roots, steep rock inclines and SNOW!!  It was quite an accomplishment and we celebrated at the Seward Brewing Company afterwards!
Right after we reached the top, we were interviewed by a reporter for the Alaska Dispatch News.  She was doing an article about the how the Exit Glacier has receded.   She said when she did this trail 20 years ago the glacier was right by the shelter house (see picture of me by the door). Amazing, because it was no where near there now!!
